Founder and designer Sonya Mefaddi began her creative career after earning a BA in Visual Communication from the University of Western Sydney. Post-graduation, Sonya taught design subjects at the University of Western Sydney and later ventured into the creative space for a marketing firm. In 2009, she launched her first business in the fashion industry, Fashion Palette, an annual platform that collaborates closely with Australian designers. Through Fashion Palette, Sonya showcased brands locally and internationally, gracing events such as New York Fashion Week and Miami Swim Week, and producing shows for notable designers like Bec & Bridge, Steven Khalil, Toni Maticevski, Akira, and Sass & Bide. In 2019, Sonya launched her own label, Sonya Moda. Initially a swimwear brand, Sonya Moda evolved to introduce its first ready-to-wear collection in 2020, featuring the brand's hero piece, the Nour dress. Sonya Moda is a testament to Sonya's fusion of her creative skills, personal style, and graphic design background, creating a unique signature brand. Born in Jordan and raised in Australia, Sonya draws inspiration from her heritage and her love for the ocean, ensuring swim and resort wear remains integral to the brand's journey.
